but i came across this one from Mary Oliver - the beloved Mary Oliver - and thought it a grand way to start the week. Here ’tis:
Why I Wake Early
Hello, sun in my face.
Hello, you who made the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety –
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light –
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.
Mary Oliver
We had all of four minutes of sun shine today. Now the hills are covered with snow flurries. But I know, that somewhere, out there, probably in Debra Prinzing’s LA, the sun is shining. That’s ok, my desert home needs a winter rest. Come to think of it, so do I. Off to make a pot of soup (Buffalo Chicken soup for dinner) and then a little nap. Winter’s nap. Ah yes.

Thanks, MA. I’ve never heard of Mary Oliver, but I like her thoughts. I think I’ll put this one by my desk. We’ve had some sun today, and some clouds. It’s cold, but we all went outside and played anyway.
Buffalo Chicken Soup? I think you need to share that recipe. Love ya, Dee

Dee,
A couple of the wise women in my life enriched it substantially this past year by turning me onto Mary Oliver. One of them was MA. I’ve got three of her poetry books now, and go to them quite often for a deep, cleansing breath. She is worth the introduction. Pure, simple, heartfelt seeing with words. Magical.
