Street Food

For three bucks on the street in LA, you can get the best damn snack in America. I kid you not. It was on Olivera street, on the corner. You get a baggie stuffed to overflowing with big wedges of jicama, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon and cucumber. All these fabulous crisp and cold wedgies are then doused with lemon juice and a big sprinkle of chile con lemon. That’s chile powder with salt and lemon. You walk along, grinning like a fruitcake, juice dripping off your chin, and diggin the scene. And you do this even if you are eating lunch in the next fifteen minutes or just ate lunch 15 minutes ago. Do not pass up the chance to eat these wedgies. Ever.
