what I’ve done for love (of plants and gardens), confession #2

I’ve become an absolute whore when it comes to garden shows, workshops, Garden Conservancy Open Days, symposia….anywhere in the country and twice to Chelsea. I took design jobs I hated just to pay for my trips. I call it my mad money and yes, I am pretty goofy.

Once upon a time, when I belonged to APLD (Association of Professional Landscape Designers) I was first in line for a seat on the bus for a tour of Oehme and Van Sweden gardens in DC and Maryland. Upon meeting James van Sweden and Wolfgang Oehme, I proudly proclaimed I felt as if I had just seen Elvis.

I love James van Sweden’s “Architecture in the Garden”… on first read, I found myself giggling and nodding my head a lot. On the second read, a little more of the author’s ego revealed itself. On the third read, I decided I didn’t care. And that I need a whole lot more hakonechloa macra ‘aureola.’ Oh yeah, and a circular pool and lots of huge purple alliums to go with it.

I can’t wait until we get through the next 3, but you’re driving me a little crazy with the wait. :)
